Unlocking Cultural Fluency Through Language

At Global School Brooklyn, you’ll find a world within our walls. Through our Spanish-English and German-English dual language programs, students develop a love of language while gaining a deeper understanding of the cultures and perspectives that shape our world.

Our inquiry-based curriculum encourages students to wonder about the world around them, to question what they observe, and to discover answers through exploration and investigation. By weaving language learning into every subject, we go beyond just grammar and vocabulary to create a richer, more comprehensive learning environment.

In the classroom, our native-speaking and international teaching team incorporates projects, discussions, and games to help students acquire language naturally. While at recess or during lunch, you might hear students singing La Cucaracha, quizzing each other before a Geschichte exam, or cheering on their classmates during a soccer game on the roof. These everyday moments reinforce language skills while building confidence (and friendships!).

Research has shown that bilingualism enhances cognitive flexibility and improves problem-solving skills. We are lucky to see this in practice each day. Through consistent exposure, authentic instructional materials, and personalized support, our students embrace new ways of thinking and interacting with our increasingly interconnected world. Do they make mistakes? Of course they do! That’s an essential part of the learning process, and it’s often when students learn the most.

Our school’s small size creates a unique advantage, allowing us to foster a close-knit, supportive community. Our students not only become bilingual, biliterate and bicultural, they are prepared to embrace, as we like to say, a world of possibilities.
