  • The Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera certifies a person’s level of proficiency in Spanish, regardless of where and how they learned it.

  • The diplomas are granted by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, and Sports of Spain.

  • For Adults, there are six exam levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2. These levels are established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

For School-aged Children, between 11 and 18 years, the Instituto Cervantes has adapted the tests to situations and communicative contexts appropriate for these ages, creating three exams: A1, A2/B1 , and B2/C1.

  • The DELE exams are graded as PASS/FAIL, and the various tests are designed to assess a person's overall communicative competence in Spanish (reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking).

You will have your DELE exam results within approximately two months from the day you took the written test. In the May and November sessions, which have the highest number of candidates, the results can take up to a maximum of three months.

To access your DELE exam results, you must log in to the Instituto Cervantes Exam Site as a user with the email address you used to register for your DELE exam.

  • It is an an official certification that complies with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRE). Once obtained it never expires and is valid permanently to prove that you are a fluent Spanish speaker.
