It may be summer but it’s always a good idea to stop and smell the flowers! 🌷
Every spring, our Kindergarteners take a special trip to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden where they learn about different species of plants and discover how things like temperature and rain can affect when they bloom. They walked under the cherry blossom trees, observed the unique shapes of tulips and experienced firsthand how nature changes with the seasons.

Nika is a proud GSB alum currently studying Jazz at Loyola University New Orleans. When she's not singing or performing, she enjoys biking, exploring nature, and spending time with people.
Q: What do you miss about GSB?
A: I miss my wonderful teachers and the memories I created with my small class.
Q: In what way has GSB prepared you for high school and college?
A: GSB prepared me for high school and college by teaching classes at a higher academic level. The teaching style followed the German way of learning, which focused on discipline, structure, and critical thinking. Because of this, I developed strong study habits, time management skills, and learned how to take responsibility for my work. Overall, GSB prepared me well for high school and college.
Q: How are you keeping up with your German?
A: I keep up with my German by speaking consistently with my father back home and my family in Germany. I like reading either the news or books in German and listening to German music.
Q: Any other news you would like to share with us?
A: I just submitted an original song to the 2026 tiny desk competition. Now I am working on releasing it on all music platforms as well as recording an album.

Cooking with Kathleen is one of our most popular afterschool programs where students get to stir, mix, and taste a variety of American and German sweet treats and healthy snacks. Young chefs work together to learn the importance of following instructions, measuring and having fun while being safe in the kitchen.
Stay tuned for more culinary masterpieces this fall! 👩🍳

Through our International Exchange Program, Grade 8 students spend two weeks fully immersed in the language and culture of another country. Our German track students travel to our partner school in Germany, Josef-Schwarz-Schule, where they live with host families, attend classes and experience the power of language in real-world situations.
This year, our students explored the Rosenberg Falconry Castle, experienced the excitement of Tripsdrill, and, most importantly, built meaningful friendships and created memories that will last a lifetime.

What do you get when you combine history and poetry? An Internationale Gedichts-Messe (International Poetry Fair)!
As part of their Sachkunde and Social Studies curriculum, our 6th graders explored the cultures and history from Europe, Asia, and the Arab world before crafting original poems inspired by what they learned. They then brought their work to life for our 5th graders through creative presentations featuring haikus, limericks, props and even puppets!

As part of their American Revolution unit, our 7th graders take a trip to Boston to discover what life was like during colonial times. They walk the Freedom trail, board the Tea Party ship and even go on a ghost tour to connect their classroom to the people and places that helped shape our nation over 250 years ago.

Our preschoolers have a beautiful new mural in their outdoor space, designed and painted by our talented 7th graders. 🎨
Through interviews with the preschoolers, the 7th graders learned about their favorite things and their daily lives in Brooklyn which is reflected in every aspect of the design with subway cars, cats, firetrucks and so much more.
The Making of the Pre-K Mural Documentary, directed and produced by Greta, follows the 7th graders in Design class as they come together to sand, sketch and paint this masterpiece!
