A heartfelt congratulations to our 8th grade class as they wrap up their last school year at GSB. We have been honored to have each of them grow and learn with us throughout the years. GSB started the final stretch of the school year with Sports Day! ♟️🏀⚽️🏓
Students were able to take part in the fun run and various tournaments as participants or spectators. They dribbled, they cheered and they celebrated with trophies and an exclusive GSB hat! 🏆
It’s been an exciting day for all of the students and staff. We came together for our first assembly as Global School Brooklyn to celebrate entering a new era with each student receiving a special t-shirt to mark the occasion! 💛

It’s been 160 years since hundreds of thousands of enslaved people in Texas were finally emancipated, marking June 19th, 1865 the effective end of slavery across the United States. While recognizing that true freedom requires continuous efforts, Juneteenth is a day to reflect on our nation’s past and celebrate the steps to freedom with festivals, open mics and cookouts.
Whether you want to learn more about this historical event or join the local community, there are many meaningful events happening in Brooklyn:
@weeksvilleheritagecenter will be holding their annual Juneteenth Food Festival today from 12 pm – 8: pm
@bcmkids will be hosting workshops, performances and activities today in Bower park from 11am – 3 pm + free admission to the museum from 2pm - 5pm
@brooklynmuseum will have performances, art-making, vendors and a curated tour featuring Black-owned businesses and artists on Sunday, June 18, 2023, 2–6 pm
Our 8th graders had a roaring good time during their culminating 1920’s project. Dressed to impress, they tried to uncover each other’s historical alter egos from Zelda Fitzgerald to Lou Gehrig. Students studied the time period in small groups, and helped to plan the event featuring food, style, politics, and slang from the decade. They were also able to try their hand at poker and period dances like the box step and the Charleston. 🎺🔎✨
On Tuesday, our Middle School students took the stage as our Spring Celebration performances continued! They sang along to Fleetwood Mac, drummed rhythms in “I’m Coming Out” and showcased their musical skills while playing the violin, keyboards, electric guitar, the bass and the flute. We are grateful to have such a dynamic music teacher guiding our young musicians. 🎤🎻🎶
Our Friday Reading Night sleepover was full of books and surprises. After a group dinner, students spent the night working together to complete a scavenger hunt and even built “2 minute sculptures” in the gym before going to sleep with a bedtime story. They woke up early (of course) to build block structures on the roof before joining their families for a special group breakfast. 📚🧩
And a huge shout out goes out to all our teachers and interns who made sure our kiddos had an adventure filled (yet restful) night! 👏
We’re proud to have Kaeppler Rissmann—real estate agent with Compass, GSB parent, and President of the Parent Association—as a sponsor of this year’s GSB Gala!
Kaeppler’s generous and ongoing support of our GSB community, including helping families relocate to Brooklyn, plays a vital role in growing and strengthening our Global School Brooklyn community—right here at home and far beyond. Thank you, Kaeppler, for your passion, commitment and heart! 🌍❤️
